Beijing Municipal Leaders Receive the APECF DelegationOn March 15, 2012, Standing Member of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Vice Mayor Mr. Lu Wei received Mr. Steven Clark Rockefeller, Co-Chairman and Mr. Xiao Wunan, Executive Vice Chairman of the Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation at the city hall.
Vice Mayor LU warmly welcomed Mr. Rockefeller and made a detailed presentation about ten new directions for the development of cultural industries in Beijing. This includes: building a large-scale theme park similar to those build by Disney elsewhere; the creation of a production base for visual arts to rival ‘Dreamworks’ in Hollywood; making Beijing into an international design hub; developing world class institutions for the performing arts; establish a vibrant market for cultural products; build a Global Music Center the incorporates national culture; fully develop Beijing’s intangible cultural assets and heritage through international exchange; building 100 theaters to attract top performance groups from around the world; transform old industrial areas in suburban Beijing into cultural and artistic districts; encourage the development of market-based cultural industry funds to provide financial support.
Mr. Rockefeller expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and praised the “Great Culture” strategy that the government has begun to implement. He also expressed his willingness to support these efforts.
Mr. Xiao Pei, the Director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture, Ms.Gong Tingyu, Deputy Secretary-General of APECF and Mr. Xiong Feng the CEO of Jue Lan She (Beijing) International Culture & Art Company Ltd., also attended the meeting.
